Professor Goemeone Mogomotsi currently serves as Deputy Permanent Secretary for Trade in the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship. He previously held the role of Director of Legal Services and Secretary to Council at the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources and is an Associate Professor of International Environmental Law and Policy at the University of Botswana.
Earlier in his career, he served as Senior Executive Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Botswana, having joined the institution as a Legal Officer after his tenure at Barclays Bank of Botswana. He began his legal career as an Associate Attorney at Duma Boko & Co.
Prof Mogomotsi holds a PhD in International Financial Law and Regulation from the University of the Witwatersrand. His academic credentials include an LLM in Commercial Law (University of South Africa); an LLM in International Trade, Business & Investment Law and a Master of Arts in Development Studies (University of the Western Cape); a Master of Public Administration (Public Policy & Administration) and a Bachelor of Laws (University of Botswana); and a Bachelor of Financial and Investment Analysis and Master of Financial Management (Amity University).
A prolific scholar, he has published widely in international trade law, wildlife law and policy, climate change, indigenous peoples’ rights, international water law and diplomacy, and natural resources governance.
