Managing Director's Message 2009

Botswana Development Corporation Ltd (BDC) has continued to deliver on its mandate to contribute to Botswana’s economic development by supporting the establishment of economically viable and sustainable enterprises.

Once again the past year has proved to be a successful year for the Corporation which has again delivered on its financial targets both in terms of growth in the investment portfolio as well as in terms of profits. The new Marketing and Research division is already making a meaningful contribution to the Corporation’s performance and the innovative products of the Invoice Discounting Division are now a recognised feature of the Botswana corporate landscape.

The year ahead will undoubtedly be challenging in the context of the global economic slowdown but the Corporation is well positioned to face these challenges head on. Management is confident of meeting the expectations of all stakeholders and of continuing to deliver a world class service to our prospective business partners.

The year under review was Mr Matambo’s last year in the Managing Director’s office and it is fitting that we pay tribute to the service he has given the Corporation over the past 10 years. The Corporation he leaves behind is an innovative, successful developmental organisation that under his stewardship has contributed significantly to the economic development of this country.
