This year, 2007, the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) Limited launched a  new four year Strategic Plan (2007-2011)  through which the BDC Limited once again pledges its commitment to remain  the leading innovative investor,  trusted and most experienced equity partner, loan financier and leading commercial and Industrial property developer in the country.

Through its new Mission, “The Premier Innovative Investment Partner delivering flexible financial solutions” BDC Limited vows to put its stakeholders at the heart of all it does to promote investment, employment and wealth creation in the country. The Corporation has been doing business with investors from around the world over the past 37 years of its existence, providing quality products and services, characterized by a high degree of professionalism and prudent management. It has successfully been able to provide equity and long-term loan financing to viable businesses promoted by both local and foreign investors.

To further demonstrate its full commitment  to investor friendly business environment  and high degree  of financial robustness, the Corporation recently introduced a relatively new product to Botswana, called “Invoice Discounting” to  cater for  the working capital needs of small and medium scale businesses in the country. This new product will certainly provide short term credit facilities for growing businesses.

As a development corporation, BDC continues to face many challenges in its efforts to  promote citizen participation in business ventures as well as attracting foreign direct investment. Growth in our portfolio of investments has been less than desired due to scarcity of new viable green-field projects, and this calls upon the Corporation to be more aggressive and improve on its past performances by identifying new strategies for attainment of sustainable economic diversification and global competitiveness. It is in this regard that the Corporation constantly monitors the ever changing market conditions to align itself with best international practices and new initiatives that would enable it to contribute meaningfully to Botswana’s growing economy.

BDC Limited  is strongly committed to the principles of good corporate governance, and shall continue to partner with other development and investment institutions to identify new opportunities and directly foster investment with its strategic partners across the globe.
