With a mandate to grow the economy of Botswana and create sustainable economic growth, Botswana Development Corporation Limited is constantly faced with the real needs of the nation.  A healthy growth is not only desirable, it is also critical.  Government cannot continue to rely on minerals indefinitely, and to counter that, it is necessary that a thriving Business and Private sector exists.

Over the years, BDC has grown to be the largest and most experienced equity partner.  The Corporation is also one of the leading property developers, focusing on commercial, industrial and residential properties.

Through our three main products; loan financing, equity participation and property development, we have established and positioned numerous companies which continue to be part of the mainstay of the Botswana economy.  BDC is involved in all sectors of the economy except large scale mining, namely industry and manufacturing, property development and management, and agribusiness and services.

The recently established BDC companies, namely Botswana Can Manufacturers (Pty) Ltd and Botswana Leather Tannery (Pty) Ltd, are an indication of the benefits of harnessing our natural resources to create meaningful employment for the people.  Botswana Leather Tannery (Pty) Ltd exploits one of the beef industry’s main by products, which has been under utilised.  At its peak, it will ensure that the hides from the industry are fully utilised to create fully processed leather for export.  Botswana Can Manufacturers (Pty) Ltd also seeks to position Botswana as a competitor in the booming food sector.

In order to grow BDC, and consequently the economy of Botswana further, there is need for meaningful and solid partnerships, with both local and foreign investors.  The Corporation seeks technical partners who will not only help create employment, but also impart technical skills to the local workforce.

As the Business Development team continues to market the Corporation’s products and services, they continue to look for untapped opportunities which will be beneficial to both the Corporation and the investor.  With an eye on maximising shareholder value, they also look for development projects which have potential to add long term value to the nation.
