As the challenges of the business environment continue to affect how we, at Botswana Development Corporation Limited conduct business, it is worth focusing on our abilities, and tremendous experience of being the premier development and investment financier in the country since the Corporation’s inception in 1970.

Our constant role has been to diversify the economy of Botswana, to add value to the country through our products namely Equity Participation, Loan Financing and the provision of commercial, industrial and residential premises.

Our role in diversifying the economy of Botswana has been achieved through partnerships, with both local and foreign investors.

The need for direct foreign investment has never been greater. Over the years, experience has taught us that it is the foreign investor who brings technical expertise to the country, and enriches us, not only through wealth created, but also through knowledge imparted. This has had, and will continue to have tremendous influence on increasing our economic base.

The current and past droughts have taught us that it is imperative for the country’s economic base to be more than just natural resources. While striving to diversify the Country’s economy it does, however, remain important to harness our rich natural resources.

It is difficult to look around the business landscape and miss companies that the Corporation has had dealings with, in the past and in the present. Our impact on the tourism industry through our investments cannot be underestimated. Mowana Safari Lodge in Kasane and Mashatu Game Reserve stand out as first class destinations for tourists.

The Business Development team, whose primary role is to grow the Corporation’s portfolio, continues to aggressively market the Corporation as the ultimate “Investment Partner”. Research carried out in the areas of leather tannery, which is one of the least utilized resources that the country possesses, food can manufacturing and lead recycling are expected to add much value to the Corporate's portfolio.

In seeking out new business and growing our portfolio, the Corporation is strongly committed to the principles of good corporate governance, which are hallmarks of well-run accountable enterprises. As the global village grows increasingly smaller because of Information Communication Technology (ICT), the Corporation has embraced best practices, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, accountability and openness, in accordance with generally accepted corporate practices.
