BDC supports Economic Reporters Training Workshop

BDC Managing Director Officially launched the 2014-2015 Economic Reporters Training held at Fairgrounds on Monday 22 September 2014. The theme of the training is “Enhancing Status of Botswana’s Economic Journalism.” The workshop is organised by News bureau in an effort to strengthen Business reporting amongst local journalists. The programme is schedule to run quarterly from September 2014 to September 2016.

According to the organizers their principal objective is to make a contribution in raising the bar in reporting Botswana’s economic story; from its strength to its weakness and unexplored potential.

When giving the key note address, BDC Managing Director, Mr Bashi Gaetsaloe encouraged journalists to sharpen their business reporting skills to ensure Botswana’s economic story is well told to both the local and international community as a way of stimulation business and investment opportunities in Botswana. He mentioned that as key supporters of the project; BDC desires that by September 2016, reporter’s economic reporting skills would be significantly enhanced.

He further mentioned that this training is crucial because when the public is informed of the status of business and the economy they can better decisions and they can play a more meaningful role in that economy. In conclusion, Gaetsaloe highlighted that it is in the best interest of the country and Batswana that Botswana‘s media prides itself with a sufficient pool of economic reporters whose reporting is as authoritative and comprehensive as can be expected. “This is indeed in line with what the #NewBDC intends to do which is to lead and fully support Government’s drive towards economic diversification, citizen empowerment and foreign direct investment.” He said.
