BDC SPONSPORED 2011 MY STAR WINNER WITH A WHOOPING P150 000

One of Botswana Development Corporation (BDC)’s role is to support projects that generate sustainable employment for Batswana and add to the skills of the local workforce. Responding to this, BDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility sponsored the winner of the My Star show Bianca Gabasiane with a whooping P150 000. My Star is a local singing competition show that uproots and reveals the talents of the citizens and gives them the opportunity to explore their musical dreams that may turn into their careers. In that way one’s life can tremendously be transformed.

BDC saw it imperative to sponsor the winner of the competition to the tune of P150 000 on education of their choice whether music related or not at The United Kingdom. This is indeed a well calculated move by the corporation which supports the vision 2016 pillar of “A Prosperous, Productive and Innovative Nation” where society is distinguished by the pursuit of excellence through a new culture of hard work, discipline, and where efforts and necessary skills available are rewarded. Also where business and entrepreneurial activities are encouraged and supported.

Not only does BDC encourage talent and support businesses that create employment opportunities for Batswana, they also recognize the importance of education and this is demonstrated by their emphasis on which they stressed the point that the money should be invested on the winner’s education. This is another indication that the Corporation supports yet another Vision 2016 Pillar of “An Educated and Informed Nation.”

Education empowers citizens to become the best producers of goods and services and produce entrepreneurs who will create employment through the establishment of new enterprises. The sponsorship to the winner of the My Star shows indeed shows that the corporation still maintains its role of developing the lives of Batswana, contribute and promote self reliance. BDC’s corporate social responsibility will continue to support all the viable initiatives and ideas that will contribute to the development of individuals, societies and even companies.
