Letsatsi Le Etla Hand Over BDC as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility handed over the newly constructed office to the women’s based organization Letsatsi Le Etla in Motlhabaneng on Monday, April 11, 2011. The BDC Managing Director was accompanied by the BDC Chairman and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Mr. Solomon Sekwakwa, BDC Board Member, Dr. Shabani Ndzinge, BDC CSR Chairman, Mr. Simon Meti and BDC CC&PR Manager, Mr. Gomolemo Zimona Letsatsi Le Etla women group produce handmade baskets and had requested for assistance towards construction of an office from which to work and administer their operations. BDC felt that such an initiative would empower the women and greatly provide them with the means to expand their operations. BDC constructed the administration office to the tune of P36, 000.00. Speaking on behalf of the Corporation, Mr. Sekwakwa encouraged the women to work hard and reap benefits of their labour. He encouraged the women to take advantage of new technologies to market their products to an international audience through creating a website to showcase their products. The Chairman said that BDC could assist them with such technical marketing strategies by creating a linked page to the BDC website. BDC’s CSR Chairman, Mr. Meti said BDC support community initiatives which encourage self reliance and entrepreneurship. He outlined the importance of organizations such as Letsatsi Le Etla, which he noted, comes up with sustainable projects that will create employment for their communities. |
