BDC Sponsors Junior Achievement Botswana (JAB) National Business Competitions to the tune of P55 000.00

Botswana Development Corporation’s long standing relationship with Junior Achievement Botswana was further strengthened as the Corporation sponsored this year’s JAB National Business Competitions held on the 19th of June at Boipuso Hall  to the tune of P55 00.00.

Speaking at the awards dinner, BDC’s Research and Marketing Manager, Ms. Sametsi Ditshupo said BDC’s involvement with Junior Achievement Botswana started by way of sponsoring dinner tables and also having the Managing Director and other senior staff members as board members of the JAB.

“We have been involved in the Northern Region Best Business Competitions as sponsors from 2004 to 2007. Each year, we have been sponsoring the competitions to a tune of    P30 000. Last year, we sponsored the Gaborone National Best Business Competitions to the tune of P45 000 and we are here again having increased our sponsorship by P10 000 from last year to P55 000 this year.” she added.

Ms Ditshupo said the JAB awards are the only entrepreneurship awards aimed at recognizing entrepreneurship initiative at grassroots level in Botswana. “We believe that young people carry the entrepreneurial torch naturally, as they are curious and energetic.  JAB is nurturing this curiosity and interest by developing and supporting programmes that give them early exposure to the risks, rewards and critical thinking skills they need.” she added.

In conclusion, Ms. Ditshupo said BDC hoped to continue to support JAB and were hopeful that other Corporations and the private sector in general would join hands and increase their participation in worthy causes of this nature which could reshape the future of our economy.
