Business Continuity Site Launch

On June 26, 2007, BDC launched its Business Continuity Planning. Present at the launch was the BDC Chairman, Board of Directors, Management and Staff and CEO’s of some of the BDC Subsidiaries.

Speaking at the official launch, the BDC’s Board Chairman Mr. Serwalo Tumelo said that in 2001 when BDC set the pace by achieving ISO9000 accreditation, it started to fly the ISO flag, clearly visible to all. “For BDC that was just a beginning, the flag was an indication that it was not just leading but that it shall continue to be innovative and find strategies to maintain that leadership, even in adverse occasions. One of the strategies that the Corporation has put into action is Business Continuity Management, a total solution intertwining IT/Data Recovery, historically referred to as Disaster Recovery, with Business Processes Recovery, “he said .

Mr. Tumelo pointed out that the successful implementation of Business Continuity Planning by BDC was a further testimony to the strides that Botswana Development Corporation takes in ensuring that it does not just implement good corporate governance principles, but it actually puts those principles into tangible practice.

For his part, The Managing Director of Botswana Development Corporation, Mr. Kenneth Matambo, expressed his appreciation to the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of BDC for the important role they all played in the initiation and implementation of the Business Continuity project.

Mr. Matambo further emphasised that Business Continuity Planning was indeed such an important initiative, that must receive the full support of the Leadership, and indeed the presence of BDC Board of Directors and Senior Management was a demonstration of that commitment.

While, welcoming guests, the BDC Group Internal Auditor, Mr. Ronald Phole, said that the purpose of the launch was to get the Board, Management and Staff to have an appreciation of how BDC will conduct its business in the event that a disaster or other unfortunate incidence occurs, rendering the BDC offices inaccessible or not suitable for conducting business.
