Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) Donates a block of three Class rooms worth over P800 000.00 Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) Limited has donated a three classroom block worth over P800 000.00 to the management of Francistown Centre For Deaf Education over the weekend (May 15, 2009). Officially handing over three classrooms, a member of the BDC Board of Directors, Ms. Ina Kandjii said the classrooms will help the centre increase its capacity and give more disadvantaged members of society a chance to benefit from the initiative. She said the students and trainees who will benefit from courses and skills offered by this Centre will eventually join the labour market and contribute positively to the economy of this country. Ms Kandjii said BDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy is deliberately made diverse to ensure that every deserving member of society is cared for, adding that the Corporation strives to share its limited resources with the needy, because they are close to the corporation's heart. She also said BDC believes that as a national entity, it has a responsibility, in conjunction with other agencies, to give disadvantaged people the opportunities and encouragement they need in terms of education, training and general support. Ms. Kandjii further said BDC holds in high regard charitable and non-profit making organizations such as Botswana Society for the Deaf, whose mandate is to provide for the welfare and interest of the Deaf population in the country. She said as the BDC Board, they acknowledge and appreciate the organization’s commendable work in advocating for the rights of the Deaf population in Botswana for the past three decades, ensuring that they get appropriate skills and general education to empower them socially and economically. |
