BDC’s Divestment Policy

BDC has a divestment policy through which it seeks to strengthen the companies which the corporation divests from. The Corporation continuously reviews its portfolio with a view to divest from its mature investments while seeking new investment opportunities. In  doing so, BDC intends to balance the aspirations of various stakeholders such as Government, the Botswana Public and the Board of Directors. Each divestment is viewed on its own merit depending on the circumstances and the following options are available for consideration:

  • Direct sale through private placement-This involves the sale of the Corporation’s equity holding directly to an entity by way of private placement.
  • Direct Sale through Public tender process-This involves the sale through a public tender process.
  • Listing on the Stock Exchange-This involves listing the company on the Stock Exchange.

It is important to note  that divestment from a company will be determined by the strategic needs of the Corporation as well as the entity. The divestment policy could be achieved through a situation whereby such divestment introduces a new technical partner who brings financial, managerial and technical resources to the company.
