BDC hosts American Business Delegation Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) hosted a function that honoured a Business Delegation from the United States of America. Speaking at the event BDC Managing Director, Ms. Maria Nthebolan welcomed the distinguished guests and spoke at length on what BDC offers in terms of promoting and facilitating sustainable development in Botswana. Ms. Nthebolan went on to say that “We actively encourage and support businesses that use locally available resources and transform them into finished or semi finished goods, produce products for export or substitute imports, foster linkages with existing or new industries, create employment for Batswana or contribute to economic diversification and overall development of the country.” Furthermore she told the American delegation that BDC was embarking on a new strategy that would be investing on mega projects, primarily in the areas of communications, transportation, infrastructure development, energy, agriculture and mining beneficiation. Among the distinguished guests, her Excellency, Botswana’s Ambassador to the US, Ms. Tebelelo Seretse thanked BDC for hosting the American delegation. Moreover she stated that she brought the delegation to Botswana so as to corroborate with businesses in Botswana and most importantly to see, feel and touch what Botswana is all about. She said it was of due importance that the delegation gets the evidence for themselves and urged Batswana to be more aggressive when it comes to business so that they can be recognized globally. She further urged the American delegation to look into doing business with countries such as Botswana to increase their companies’ growth as Botswana is one country whose growth rate has been increasing rapidly and as a result making Botswana a viable option for business. The leader of the American delegation, President of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Harry Alford expressed that they felt honoured and commended her Excellency Ms, Seretse for the passion she has for her country. He further affirmed that “Botswana is a landing point to Africa, it is beautiful and pristine, and we look forward to forging partnerships where possible,” he said.
