2007-2011 BDC Strategic Plan comes to an End

The 2007 – 2011 Strategic Plan for Botswana Development Corporation is finally coming to an end this year 2011, June after four years of implementation. The objective of this Strategic Plan was to position the Botswana Development Corporation Limited (BDC) as the leading innovative investor in Botswana. It had a strong bias towards developing the economic and social fabric of Botswana in both a domestic and international context. The strategy was formed to guide in meeting the challenges faced by Botswana and its place in the international community, over the next few years going forward.

Through the swot analysis the Corporation managed to identify its challenges and weakness and changed them into opportunities instead. One product that came up as a result of this strategy is the Invoice Discounting Facility, a product that provides a complete answer to slow-paying customers, shortage of working capital and, if needed, protection against bad debt losses. The facility also enables a business to raise up to 85% on outstanding invoices.

The delivery of the Strategy remained dynamic and the Strategic Plan evolved and developed as the market changed. The Corporation put in place a new Marketing and Research Division, which is involved in market monitoring so that developments in the market and environment could be identified and responded to in a timely manner.

Now that the 2007-2011 strategic plan has served its four year term, the Corporation is in the process of coming up with another new strategic plan which will be implemented soon.
