#NewBDC to take the lead to drive the post diamonds agenda for future generations
Speaking at the BOCCIM Gala Dinner held in Francistown on the 27th of September, BDC managing Director Mr Bashi Gaetsaloe expressed his concern on lack of good businesses that are competitive, efficient, productive and globally connected. He mentioned that this is a challenge not only common in government entities but also with the private sector.
Mr Gaetsaloe noted that BDC is looking for investment partners who can help address some challenges faced by the country and as such Batswana should partner with the Corporation by learning to take risks and start innovative businesses.
“We are entering the Post-Diamonds Era and what we need are businesses that are competitive, efficient, productive and globally connected” said Gaetsaloe. With the economy moving towards this era the MD mentioned that there is need to intensively explore other industries to replace the revenue stream. Some of the potential business opportunities that could be explored include the use of solar to generate electricity for the country, he said.
In his conclusion Mr Gaetsaloe remarked that the #NewBDC will take the lead to drive the post diamonds agenda for future generations with one business at a time.
In her welcome remarks Francistown Deputy Mayor, Councillor Joyce Ndove appealed to entrepreneurs to support each other in ensuring that their businesses succeeded and not only focus on profit making but also in creating employment for fellow citizens. She explained that by creating jobs, they will be reducing citizen dependency on government handouts therefore more infrastructure developments could be done.
The dinner was held under the theme “Creating a Private Sector Led Economy for Conducive and Sustainable Investment Growth”.
